FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I be a volunteer if I am just visiting Australia?

YES. Some agencies are able to include volunteers in short term projects. It is a great way to practice your English and a great way to meet the locals! Conservation Volunteers Australia’s program of weekday and weekend activities is particularly popular with overseas visitors.

Are volunteers reimbursed for expenses?

Many agencies reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket expenses such as mileage costs if using their own vehicle, phone calls made on behalf of the agency, travel costs, etc. Of course, this will depend on the financial circumstances of the agency. Check out the details at your initial agency interview.

Do I need a police clearance and/or working with children check?

This will depend on what volunteer work you do. If you do require a clearance or check, most agencies will reimburse you for the costs incurred.
