The City of Fremantle prides itself on being a region dedicated to promoting physical activity, health and wellbeing through the sport and recreation services and programmes it provides. The department is coordinated by Vikki Barlow the Recreation Development Coordinator and supported by Sports Coordinator Leigh Davis , Physical Activity Projects Officer Katharine Earl and Admin Officer Richelle Gandy . The team is committed to furthering the development of and participation in sport and recreation within the City of Fremantle.

Beaches
One of the City of Fremantle’s greatest attractions is the coastline and the four beaches perfect for swimming and other leisure activities. South, Bathers, Port and Leighton Beach each offer a range of facilities that can be accessed year round and are utilised by locals and tourists alike.

The nine-hole golf course is open from dawn to dusk seven days per week all year round. Golf clubs can be hired and professional tuition is available if required.

Youth Adventure Holiday Program
An exciting program of activities is organised for young people every school holidays. Young people can take part in an exciting program of activities. The program could include horse riding, surfing, boating, fishing, canoeing and a range of other activities. Activities are suitable for young people aged 12 to 18 years.

Booking for Seasonal Use
Seasonal bookings are divided into Summer (October to March) and Winter (April to September). Applications for summer users are mailed to existing clubs in July/Aug and Winter users in Jan/Feb prior to the season

Youth Sports Grants
The City of Fremantle has a Youth Sport Grant of up to $300 to assist young sports people to achieve a high level of sporting performance.
Applications will be received twice each year:
- April for winter sports (presented in June) and
- November for summer sports (presented in December)
Grants will be awarded to assist with the following areas of expenditure:
- direct travel expenses eg) airfare
- accommodation expenses eg) hotel charges
- coaching fees eg) specialist coaching
- specialist equipment
Applicants must be:
- residents of the City of Fremantle and/or a member of a Fremantle based sports club
- aged between 12 and 18 years in the year of their nomination
- have been selected to represent Western Australia (or an equivalent level of representation) by their Associations in their chosen sport
- provide evidence of support from either the relevant sporting association or sports governing body
- outline their sporting achievements to date and explain how the grant will assist them achieve a higher level of sporting performance
- provide a budget which clarifies how funds will be used
- demonstrate how their selection for the grant will benefit their particular sport on a wider basis in Fremantle.
Previous recipients of the grant are ineligible.
Any activity, coaching or travel which has already occurred is ineligible.

Heart Foundation Walking
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest network of free community based walking groups managed nationwide by the Heart Foundation. The City of Fremantle is an area coordinator for the programme and are always looking for new walkers to join existing groups and enthusiastic people to start and lead their own group. Walking in groups is an excellent way to get the 30 minutes of physical activity recommended each day. As a low impact activity it is perfect for all levels of fitness including those recovering from injury or illness or for those just starting to be physically active. Best of all it costs nothing and can be done anywhere and at anytime!
