Waste Disposal Service The Council collects normal household refuse from the mobile garbage bin on a weekly basis. For more information on your collection day contact the Waste Management Department on 9432 9612.
Placement of Bins for Collection Bins need to be placed on the verge by 6.00am on the collection day. It will assist council staff if the bins are placed as close as possible to the kerbline. Please ensure that the lid is completely closed. Any waste that is not contained in the bin will not be collected.
Please ensure that bins are removed from the verge and placed in their normal storage areas after collection day.
If you have a disability or are unable to put your bin out Council will be able to assist. Please contact the Waste Management Department on 9432 9612 to make special arrangements.
What Will be Collected Council is only able to accept normal household waste. Council cannot accept building waste products such as sand, bricks or asbestos. Bins containing such items will not be emptied.
Council is able to assist with information about disposal of these types of products. If you have any queries in relation to building waste or waste that you cannot dispose of during the normal weekly waste collection please telephone the Waste Management Department on 9432 9612.
Bulk Waste The Council provides separate collection services for general junk and garden waste that is too large for disposal in your green bin. The areas and collection dates are listed in the waste collection calendar issued annually by Council, or view Bulk and Green Waste Map.
Please position the bulk waste on the verge the weekend prior to the collection week for your area. Waste needs to be placed on the verge by 6.00am on the Monday of your collection week.
It is not possible for Council to collect building material or tyres as part of the bulk waste collection.
Please ensure that white goods (refrigerators, freezers, stoves and washing machines) have their doors removed for child safety reasons.

Bulk Waste Bins As an additional service to all domestic residents bulk bins are placed in the City of Fremantle Works Depot car park located on Montreal Street opposite the Fremantle Public Golf Course. This service is provided four times per year. Building material will not be accepted in these bins.
The service is restricted to the equivalent of one 6x4 box trailer load per domestic property, waste from Commercial / Industrial properties will not be accepted.

Gates open at 9.00am and close at 4.00pm.
Green Waste Green Waste collections are undertaken four times per year from every household in the City of Fremantle. Collection weeks are shown in the waste collection ccalendar issued annually by Council.
Please assist your Council to provide an efficient service by ensuring that your Green Waste is placed on the verge on the Saturday and Sunday prior to your collection week.
- Green Waste placed out late will not be collected and inspections will be carried out.
- Tree trunks larger than 300mm or branches longer than 1.5 metres, will not be collected.
- Loose leaves and grass clippings should be placed in your normal household green topped rubbish bin. They must not be placed in bags or cardboard boxes for collection as greenwaste. This waste is now treated in a composting facility as part of the household waste stream.
- Green Waste contaminated with general rubbish will not be collected.
- No bulk rubbish will be collected. Green Waste only.
- We will only collect the equivalent of two (2) 6x4 trailer loads from each resident.
- Green Waste is to be placed on the verge without obstructing the footpath wherever possible. The Green Waste will be collected by machine so please avoid placing it next to trees, power poles, on sprinklers and water meters.
From August 2001 trailer loads of green waste (leaves, branches, tree and shrub prunings, grass clippings) may be taken to the Regional Resource Recovery Centre (RRRC) site in Bannister Road Canning Vale. No materials such as sand, plastic or general waste will be accepted. Prices commence from $17.00 per 6x4 trailer.
Recycling Service ( For domestic properties only ) The City of Fremantle together with the Cities of Canning, Melville, Cockburn and the Town of East Fremantle have combined resources, under the guidance of the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council to provide the first stage of a unique Resource Recovery Project.
Your new recycling bin with the distinctive yellow top is provided for the collection of dry mixed recyclables from your waste stream. It is part of a user friendly system designed with the needs of the community in mind. Proper use of the bin will play a role in significantly reducing the amount of materials going to landfill sites.

Recycling has numerous short and long term benefits for our environment and the City of Fremantle is pleased that all residents are participating. The cost of the new bin is included in your annual rates.
Yellow Topped Bin The yellow topped bin is emptied once per fortnight on the same day as the green bin. Except where an alternative day has been agreed for the convenience of some residential properties within the CBD.
The following items can be recycled:
- Glass bottles, jars and containers
- Plastic bottles, jars and containers
- Aluminium cans and foils
- Steel cans
- Aerosol Cans
- Liquid paperboard including fruit juice and dairy cartons
- Paper and cardboard including newspapers and all thickness of cardboard.
- Empty plastic shopping bags
Do not put these items in your yellow topped bin:
- Cling wrap
- Green Waste
- Polystyrene containers
- Clothing / Shoes
- Electrical Appliances
