APPLYING FOR PLANNING APPROVAL

Mission Statement: To provide an integrated approach to facilitate quality development for Fremantle.

Planning approval is required before any development on a property can take place. The information required for a planning application & relevant fee must accompany the official application form upon lodgment. If you are unsure about whether you require planning approval please consult Councils Customer Service Planning Officer.

Development includes:
• The erection or construction of any building or structure;
• Building alterations or additions;
• Excavation work.

Planning approval is also required for:
• Existing structures without Council approval (Policy DBM8 refers) ;
• Changing the use of the land/building/premises (Policy DBU4 refers);
• Home Occupations (Policy DC7 refers);
• Filling or clearing of land (Policy DBH3 refers);
• Signs (Policy DBH6 refers);
• Painting of front facades;
• Fences / screen walls (Policy DBH2 refers);
• Demolition of buildings;
• Some satellite dishes, Air-conditioning units, Antennas (Policy DBH5 refers);
• Trading in public places (Policy DBU5 refers);
• Outdoor dining (Policy DBU8 refers);
• Non low-impact telecommunication facilities (Policy DBM9 refers).

We invite and encourage you to visit Councils Customer Service Planning Officer prior to lodging an application as this may assist in reducing the process time. This allows an opportunity to discuss an outline of your proposal and preliminary plans to a Planning Officer in the early stages of planning your development. You will then be advised and provided with the appropriate required information in order to lodge a formal application.
