Motorists to Fremantle can now breathe easy
From 1st July 2009 your parking fees help the City of Fremantle purchase 100% GreenPower, so we are both supporting the best choice for our environment. You can find out more on the news section of ourwebsite.
Fremantle is a vibrant and energetic port city with a great atmosphere. It’s a place with a strong local community and one that attracts many visitors each year. There is a strong demand for parking in our central business district and we work to ensure equitable access for everyone by providing short, medium and long term parking options.
Short Term
§ Metered parking with time limits varying from 15 minutes, 30 minute and 1 hour are available in high demand locations.
§ ½ hour free parking in High Street (west of Market Street).
§ 1056 on-street car parking bays right outside banks, post office and stores in the CBD.
Medium Term
§ If you are not sure how long you will be Queensgate Car Park has 850 car bays right in the heart of the City. Look out for the brightly coloured multi story building. The largest public artwork in the Southern Hemisphere, Queensgate has been made over by Australian Centre for Concrete Art artist Alex Spremberg AC4CA.
Long Term
§ Look out for the tear off parking map which shows some of the cheaper long term parking located on the fringes of the CBD, try Beach Street, Ellen Street and Parry Street Car Parks.
Do you really need to bring your car? There are lots of options for getting into and around Fremantle without a car.
§ Fremantle CAT Bus– look out for the bright orange bus, its FREE and runs every 10 minutes. Park on the outskirts of the City and jump on the CAT.
§ FreoStar – a free bus service for Fremantle residents that runs on Saturday and Sundays. Click here for a timetable and map.
§ Transperth Fremantle Train station and bus port provides direct walking access to Fishing Boat Harbour, museums and galleries, the shopping district, the Cappuccino strip and restaurants.
§ Bicycle – in common with many European cities Fremantle is a great city for using your bike. It’s quick, easy, good exercise and you are doing your bit for the environment! Click here for a map of bike rack locations.
Universal Access
An Acrod or TPI Permit allows free parking in all City of Fremantle car parks and street parking with an extra 30 minutes over the time limit (except time limits shown on dedicated Acrod Bays). Refer to our Universal access map for details of ramps and pathways. For visitors, official disabled parking permits issued worldwide are accepted in Fremantle.
Parking Permits and Monthly Parking Tickets
§ Free Parking Permits for Fremantle Residents (& Town of East Fremantle Library members)
Residents of Fremantle can apply for free parking permit which will allow them free parking within the Fremantle CBD between the hours of 9am - 11am and 3pm - 1am Monday to Friday. All day parking is also available on Saturdays and Sundays in the Point Street car park (car park 6) Download the application formand conditions of use.
§ Residential Parking Permits
If you are a resident or a rate payer living in either a time restricted or fee-paying area and do not have adequate off-street parking, you may be eligible for a residential parking permit. Download the application form and conditions of use here.
§ Monthly Tickets
Advanced purchase monthly parking tickets are available for use in several council car parks, including Queensgate car park (Car Park no. 9). General-purpose monthly tickets covering both street and car parks are also available. Monthly tickets are available from the Queensgate Cashiers Office located in the Queensgate Parking Complex. Reservation of parking bays is available for work purposes or special occasions such as weddings or events. Applications can be made to;

Motorbike Parking
Motorbike bays are located around the city and are free of charge. They may have time restrictions so always remember to refer to the signs displayed. Motorbikes are permitted to park in car bays but the applicable parking fees must be paid and stated time limits apply. When purchasing a ticket to park your motorbike in a car bay we suggest that you retain the tear-off section of the ticket so that proof of purchase can be provided should an infringement be issued due to the ticket having blown away or been removed.

Parking appeals
In the event that that you receive a parking infringement there is a process of appeal. You can appeal in writing using the appeal form, providing as much evidence as you can to support your claim. Quote the infringement number, registration number and provide a telephone contact. As a general rule parking appeals are resolved within 10 working days, however if you don’t receive a response within this time please contact us on 9432 9811. Send your appeal to:
