Shout, Share, Live, Unite… Fremantle Youth Week this April

26 Mar 2008
IT'S all systems go for Youth Week celebrations in the City of Fremantle with Kings Square the place to be on Friday, April 11.

From 9am, the Fremantle Village Art Market will come alive with a multitude of free events including a circus school workshop, graffiti art mural, giant hopscotch and chess, climbing wall and youth stalls focusing on agencies that can assist young people.

A DJ will also be on hand, gunning out the grooves, while Rhythm Fix will hit that perfect beat with a drumming workshop.

The day of celebration is presented by the City of Fremantle’s Youth Service, in collaboration with Anglicare WA (Spearwood Youth Accommodation), Quarry Health, the City of Cockburn’s Youth Service, Mercy Reconnect, Bridging the Gap – Job Futures and SMYL Community Services.

“Youth Week aims to raise awareness and celebrate the value of all young people aged 12 to 25 and the contribution they make to our community,” City of Fremantle youth worker Astrid Sander said.

“We are inviting all young people that live within the City of Fremantle and surrounding suburbs to get involved in this fun and free event.”

This year’s theme for Youth Week is “Shout, Share, Live, Unite” and encourages all young Australians to:
• Shout out about the things that matter to them.
• Share in the fun of activities and events happening across the country.
• Live every day to its fullest.
• Unite with others in the community to celebrate the contribution young people make to society.

“Participation is a key element in the development of young people and Youth Week events encourage learning, social and community connections and confidence-building, which all help to prepare young people for success,” State Government Youth Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich said.

Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri adds: “I’m always amazed at the amount of sheer talent, dedication and commitment shown by people under 25 in our community and this passion is something that should be celebrated.”
