Road Closures - May 21 - World Youth Day Cross and Icon

19 May 2008
ROAD closures will be in place along High Street, from Ord to Queen Streets, 3pm to 5pm, Wednesday, May 21.

CBC Fremantle is hosting the WYD Cross and Icon in preparation for World Youth Day in Sydney this July. The school is hosting the Cross and Icon from 1pm to 4pm, then the University of Notre Dame from 4pm to 8pm and St Patrick’s Basilica from 8pm to 1am.

One of the largest Catholic events in Australia, the 3.8m high, 40kg Cross and Icon are travelling through every diocese in each state during its journey. The event marks the first visit to Australia by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

CBC Fremantle is focusing on the local Catholic school community while hosting the Cross and Icon with the University of Notre Dame looking at the tertiary education sector and St Patrick’s Basilica concentrating on the local Catholic and Italian communities.

Students from CBC Fremantle will hand over the Cross and Icon to the University of Notre Dame at a special ceremony in Fremantle’s Kings Square, before a procession down High Street to the university. Road closures will be in place for this event (3pm-5pm, May 21).
