Hot stuff! Cash rebate in wood heater replacement program
29 May 2007
The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) is again running its Woodheater Replacement Program in 2007.
The smoke from incorrectly operated domestic woodheaters is the major cause of brown haze we see across Perth skies in winter months.
Haze is made up of small droplets of tar and creosote, chemicals that can be carcinogenic and aggravate respiratory conditions such as asthma and heart conditions.
The program is part of the DEC’s Halt the Haze initiative, which has the aim of reducing or eliminating sources of pollution contributing to Perth’s haze problem. A $500 rebate is offered - 800 rebates are available. For more information on the program click here.
It's easy to reduce smoke emissions from your woodheater by following a few simple steps. These can be found in the information brochure Store Right, Burn Bright, Breathe Alright produced by the DEC. A copy can be downloaded here (PDF format). Alternatively, a hard copy can be obtained from the City of Fremantle’s Environmental Health Services by calling 9432 9856.
