Weedbuster Week: Friends of Samson Park need YOU!

02 Oct 2007
AS part of National Weedbuster Week, the City of Fremantle and Friends of Samson Park are calling for people to join them on Sunday, October 14, to help remove gladiolus and Geraldton carnation weed from the park.

City of Fremantle Bush Regenerator Shayne Boyle described the weeds as serious threats to native flora in the area.

“With continued vigilance we can make a difference to ensure the next generation enjoys the wonderful native plant life on show in the park,” he said.

“Due to the presence of a caustic sap associated with Geraldton carnation weed, volunteers will be provided with protective eye wear and gloves – and we also recommend clothing such as long-sleeved shirts.

“While this event is primarily a weeding exercise, we’re also using it at as an opportunity to provide information on invasive weeds to help generate greater community awareness.

“A sausage sizzle will also be provided to thank everyone for their efforts.”

People interested in taking part should meet at Samson Park’s noticeboard area, off Sellenger Ave in Samson, at 9am, Sunday, October 14.
