Toy time for tots to toddlers: Fremantle Toy Library opens in Hilton
17 Apr 2008
NODDY and his friends in Toyland have some competition on their hands, now the Fremantle Toy Library in Hilton has opened its doors.
Located in Progress Hall on Paget Street, the Fremantle Toy Library is managed by the Fremantle City Library, after being moved from Quarry Street.
Fremantle City Librarian Julie Caddy said the move was to give the community better access, in terms of more space, an additional opening day and better parking.
“There is also online access to our general library services and the option of requesting library items for pick up in Hilton or returning library materials there,” she said.
“Progress Hall and the surrounding area have been targetted as an area for development as a community centre and the toy library is the beginning of this – the Meeting Place is also offering community activities at the hall.”
The Fremantle Toy Library has an array of toys, including ride-in-cars, bikes, scooters, puzzles, games, puppets, fancy dress, baby walkers and various activities for children aged up to six, and is open 9am to 2pm, Monday, Thursday and Friday and 9am to 5pm Tuesday.
“The joy of toys for children is a wonderful thing, enlivening their imaginations while also helping them to learn,” Ms Caddy said.
“Having the Fremantle Toy Library in Hilton is about taking toys to the people, making sure the children in our community have ready access to playthings as they grow and develop.
“And our general library access is for the whole community, not just toy library members, giving people from all walks of life even more convenience when using our services.”
