More nominations needed for Freo's Sporting Wall of Fame

21 Jul 2008
MORE nominations are needed for Fremantle's Sporting Wall of Fame, designed to honour, recognise and promote the port city's sporting heritage.

Since 1998, the Sporting Wall of Fame – located in the Town Hall Centre arcade – has publicly acknowledged sporting accomplishments of Fremantle sportsmen and women who have achieved state, national or international recognition.

There are currently 66 local sporting heroes on the wall, including basketballer Luc Longley, footballers John Worsfold, Jack Sheedy and David Neesham, cricketers Geoff Marsh and Graeme Wood, diver Harry “Coota” Miller and horse trainer Bill Horn (famous for training Village Kid), among others.

“In the past 10 years, the Fremantle Sporting Wall of Fame has become a highly-regarded and effective way of acknowledging local sporting identities, especially in some of the lesser-known sports,” City of Fremantle Sports Coordinator Leigh Davis said.

Forms are available from the City of Fremantle Service and Information Centre at 8 William Street or by calling sports coordinator Leigh Davis on 9432 9724, 9am to 3pm, Monday to Wednesday. Nominations close August 8.
