Breakfast for Friday nights
16 Aug 2007
SOME of Fremantle's leading traders gathered at the Town Hall Centre reception room this morning, for a combined breakfast and information session on the City's new Friday night trading initiative.
The breakfast, hosted by Mayor Peter Tagliaferri, was organised by the City of Fremantle to let retailers know about the many benefits and incentives on offer for them to open their doors to trade on Friday nights.
Economic Development and Marketing Coordinator, David Duncanson, said the City had moved to change from Thursday to Friday night late trading, because of poor customer patronage and retailer participation on Thursday nights.
In a bid to encourage participation, the City is offering retailers free parking vouchers for their customers and also gives them an opportunity to be in the running for the great Fremantle Shopping Spree prize.
The breakfast information session covered the most important aspects of Friday trading, which starts on September 28.
Linc Advertising’s Peter Liddell, who is handling the advertising campaign spoke about the City’s new marketing campaign ‘Friday Night Shopping’s Alive in Fremantle’ and Inspector Russell Armstrong spoke about the improvements to security and increased police patrols on the new late trading night.
Mr Duncanson said Friday night in Fremantle was naturally busier than Thursday so it made sense for retailers to open then.
“Fremantle comes alive as an entertainment precinct on Friday nights so it makes sense for traders to tap into that influx of people” he said.
“More people out and about creates a much more secure environment, so people feel more comfortable coming here.
“We encourage every trader to get behind this new initiative and give it a go.”
