City of Fremantle Over-55s Taskforce launched: nominations now open

NOMINATIONS are now open for the City of Fremantle Over-55s Taskforce, following its launch at the start of November.

About 40 people attended a function, designed to outline the taskforce’s aim of promoting positive ageing in the community and its review of the City of Fremantle’s positive ageing strategy.

City of Fremantle Community Development Officer Lorelle Sinclair said many nominations were submitted at the launch but there was still time to make a submission by calling her on 9432 9882 or dropping into Fre-info at the Fremantle City Library for a form.

“Beth Scott, when describing how she keeps active, put it best on the night when she told everyone she had adopted ‘it’s not the years in your life that matter, it’s the life in your years’ as her personal motto,” Ms Sinclair said.

“The taskforce is a chance for people to get involved in developing projects for and by the over-55s as they embrace the best of what life has to offer, showing the rest of the community what they can do.

“We’re looking for people over-55 who live life to the fullest, have plenty of ideas, a sense of humour, love life and are keen to contribute to the community in a positive way.

“The taskforce aims to encourage participation and involvement of community members 55 years and over by organising, promoting and implementing a range of projects and initiatives that will help highlight this stage of life is as varied and fulfilling as any other.

“Additionally, the taskforce will provide a forum for the discussion of relevant issues and help inform council on how to achieve strategic objectives.”

Nominations close on Friday, November 24, coinciding with an over-55s day in Kings Square, as part of the Fremantle Festival Outside The Square program.
