Happier, healthier and smarter kids: get the facts in Freo

01 May 2008
HERE'S a chance to find out the best way to raise happier, healthier and smarter kids at the Fremantle City Library from 10am to midday, May 28.

Leading health and environmental researcher Dr Peter Dingle, a Murdoch University associate professor, will speak on children’s health and well-being, their quality of life and getting the best school performance from them.

“What you do now will influence your children for the rest of their lives, so make sure you get it right,” he said. “Even small changes can make a big difference to your child’s well-being.”

Dr Dingle, author of the books Dangerous Beauty, Sick Homes and The DEAL for Happier, Healthier, Smarter Kids, will cover several topics in his talk, including:
• The dangers of addictive processed foods, chemicals and additives that cause poor health in children.
• How to recognise good food: what it truly is, where to get it and how to use it.
• Why Australia is leading the world in childhood obesity.
• How to raise children in a world of high pressure and quick fixes.

Fremantle City Library adult librarian Robin Smith said people attending the free talk would find Dr Dingle “thoroughly engaging”.

“Many describe Dr Dingle’s presentations as life-changing experiences, simply because he exudes so much passion, backed up by tangible facts that people can relate to,” she said.
