G'Day for Reading: US library wants to hear from Freo kids

17 Jun 2008
A US library wants to hear from eight to 14-year-olds across Fremantle - and its suburbs - as part of a summer reading challenge.

Known as G’day for Reading, Dunbarton Public Library in New Hampshire is calling for postcards and letters to be exchanged with others the same age.

Fremantle City Library young people’s services librarian Linda Thorne said it was a chance for young people to describe what it’s like being a young person living in Fremantle.

“Free postcards are available at the library, or you can buy own, or even just a write a letter,” she said.

“Some ideas of things to write about include first name and age, favourite foods, typical school days, what you like about living in Fremantle and WA and any cool stuff you may have learnt or enjoyed during the year.

“Young people might also write about their favourite music, movies and video games, pets, books and authors and what they like to do during summer and winter.

“School classes or community groups are also welcome to contribute letters or postcards to the project.”

All postcards and letters should be posted in the box in the children’s library (part of Fremantle City Library at 8 William Street) by Saturday, July 19.

A parcel containing all contributions will then be sent to Dunbarton Public Library in New Hampshire. For more information, contact Linda Thorne on 9432 9771 or e-mail lindat@fremantle.wa.gov.au.
