Parade yourself at this year's Fremantle Festival!
29 May 2007
AWASH with colour and a moving feast of fun, this year's Lotterywest Street Parade is another breath of fresh air.
Using the theme of “wind”, the City of Fremantle is calling for people to take part in the annual November parade, regarded as the pinnacle of the Fremantle Festival.
Whether it’s a funky float, groovy group, trendy transport or some other hip’n’happening suggestion, people are invited to submit ideas to bring the parade to life.
Cultural Development Coordinator Lou Westbury said the City of Fremantle was able to offer some support to community groups with help from the parade coordinator and community artists.
“The parade is a significant way for Fremantle to come out in force to celebrate its diversity and is a major drawcard that attracts a huge crowd every year,” she said.
“This year, there’s also a $300 prize on offer for an entry using wind in a surprising way while also combining sound and movement in an innovative fashion.
“We’re looking for music, singing, chanting, instruments, colour and movement to really bring the parade to life – and we want to make sure it’s as vibrant as ever, embracing the wind theme.”
Applicants can take part in float-building and costume workshops, gain assistance with materials and seek advice on ideas and general problems that may occur, along with applying for financial help.
Forms must be submitted by July 23 and are available from Fremantle Festival Operations Coordinator Doreen Johnson on 9432 9728, e-mail doreen@fremantle.wa.gov.au or download from www.fremantlefestivals.com.
The Lotterywest Street Parade is scheduled for 4pm, November 18. It should be noted the parade cannot be used to solely advertise a business.
