Make your mark, have a lark and enjoy your park this June
11 Jun 2007
GIBSON Park Precinct is calling on people to get out and about on Sunday, June 17, as part of Enjoy Your Parks Day.
Starting at 10am in the Forrest Playground, part of Sir Frank Gibson Park on Forrest Street, the Fremantle Crime Prevention Squad will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions.
At 10.15am, participants will walk around Sir Frank Gibson Park before heading down to Holland Street Park, recently upgraded by the City of Fremantle, for a snack and some kickball, also giving younger children the chance to use the playground equipment.
From 11.30am, it’s a walk back to the Forrest Playground to enjoy various ball games, a fitness circuit and explore the workings of a police car, followed by a sausage sizzle, drinks and snacks at 12.30pm. And, to finish the day, bush band Fiddlestix will be playing from 1pm to 2:30pm.
“Gibson Park Precinct has organised this event with the aim of promoting and celebrating a sense of community for local residents,” City of Fremantle Precinct Officer Leigh McGowan said.
“It’s also a chance for people to get a little bit physical while having lots of fun at the same time and discover more about their local parks.
“Local parks are often not used to their full potential by local residents and the City of Fremantle and Gibson Park Precinct are aiming to change that, through participation in events such as these.
“Fremantle has an abundance of wonderful parks that allow residents and visitors to get out there and enjoy themselves, whether it’s a picnic, kicking a footy around or just taking a leisurely stroll.
“Research shows that more people are likely to enjoy recreational activities somewhere local and Enjoy Your Parks Day is an ideal opportunity to get out there, be active and have fun.”
Residents of the Gibson Park Precinct area who are interested in taking part need to RSVP to Karl on 9433 5123 for catering purposes. • For more information, contact Karl on 9433 5123 (e-mail karlrand@swiftdsl.com.au) or Leigh McGowan on 9432 9919 (e-mail leighm@fremantle.wa.gov.au)
