City of Fremantle Local Bicycle Plan

23 Feb 2010

Have your say and you can win!
Each year the City of Fremantle invests in improvements to our cycling infrastructure which includes both on- and off-road cycling paths and end-of-trip facilities such as secure bike racks and lockers.

The City is reviewing the Local Bike Plan 2003-2007 to plan for future funding allocation to continue implementing cycling improvements that benefit the community. The existing transport infrastructure network consists of 179km of road network and 406km of dual-use and shared-use path network.

While in 2002 the City developed a detailed Fremantle Transport Strategy, and a Local Bicycle Network Plan a year later, recent growth in both population and tourism focused development has stimulated a review of existing planning instruments that relate to the City’s bicycle infrastructure.

A detailed Physical Activity Strategic Plan – 2008-2012 was also developed for the City which outlined a framework and a set of objectives to assist in the planning, develop, implementation and evaluation of physical activity programs and services into the future.

The City has also developed a Strategic Plan: 2006-2010 to map out a vision for how Fremantle can continue to be a “…unique and exciting place to live, work and visit.”
The development of an updated Local Bicycle Network Plan for the City of Fremantle would draw upon the results of the 2003 plan, embrace these guiding principles and expand on the recommendations documented therein to progress the City’s infrastructure. This would be done in a way consistent with the City’s vision towards a comprehensive, effective and Sustainable movement network, that’s suitable for all users.

Ensure the updated Local Bicycle Plan 2011-2016 reflects your views, issues and opinions and assist us in allocating future resources by completing a short survey.
All responses received by Midnight, Saturday March 20 will go into a draw for some great prizes such as Coles-Myer gift vouchers, SmartRider cards and St. John’s Ambulance first aid kits.
