Fremantle Mayor launches appeal: dig deep to make Christmas sweet
20 Nov 2007
FREMANTLE Mayor Peter Tagliaferri has launched a special Christmas appeal to gain much-needed donations for St Patrick's Community Support Centre.
The 2007 City of Fremantle Mayor’s Appeal is seeking donations for single people over 21 using the St Patrick’s service – predominantly men but also women.
St Patrick’s Community Support Centre is located at 9 Parry Street, Fremantle, and provides a drop-in service, free meals and health support services, as well as information, referrals and social services.
Its mission statement is: “St Patrick’s Community Support Centre endeavours to meet the needs of their clients in a non-judgemental and caring environment, acknowledging human value and self worth”.
“The true spirit of Christmas reflects a dedication to helping those in need, giving hope to those in despair and to spread peace and understanding,” Mayor Tagliaferri said.
“That’s why we’ve come together to create this appeal for St Pat’s, simply because we want to try to make Christmas more joyous in whatever way we can.
“We’re seeking a variety of donations as part of this appeal and even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference to someone.”
Cash donations can be made at the City of Fremantle cashier counter, located at 8 William Street, but donations are also sought in the shape of supermarket vouchers, non-perishable food items (tinned food, rice, pasta etc), toiletries and Christmas hampers (puddings, soft drink, crackers, biscuits and so on).
These donations can be made at the Service & Information Centre, also at 8 William Street, until 1pm, December 24.
“Where possible, we should step outside our own comfort zone and help those who, for one reason or another, cannot get by without support from the wider community,” Mayor Tagliaferri said. “Especially when it’s Christmas time, the season for giving.”
