Just the ticket! CAT bus extended to 9pm Fridays

12 Nov 2007
FRIDAY nights in Fremantle are now even better with the popular CAT bus service operating until 9pm.

Funded by the City of Fremantle and Transperth, the extended service kicks off on November 30 to tie in with the start of the Christmas season and recently-introduced Friday night shopping.

Since its inception in 2000, the CAT bus route has been extended with patronage continuing to grow – the service now carries an average of more than 16,000 passengers a week to 26 stops around the Fremantle CBD and South Fremantle.

Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri welcomed the move, believing it would encourage even more people to come into the port city to take advantage of Friday night trading.

“Response to the CAT bus was enthusiastic from the word go and in the past seven years it has carried more than 5.2 million passengers,” he said.

“Residents and visitors to Fremantle welcome the service with open arms, as it provides a reliable and easy method of travel – Transperth’s 2007 passenger satisfaction survey indicated 97 per cent of passengers were satisfied with their experience.

“By extending the Friday service until 9pm, people can pop in and out of Fremantle as they see fit, whether doing their shopping, having a drink after work or catching up with friends for coffee.

“Past results have proven the popularity of the CAT bus, so extending its timetable can only enhance the service for people.”

The new timetable will see CAT buses running every 10 minutes from 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Thursday, 7.30am to 9pm Fridays and 10am to 6.30pm weekends and public holidays.

The extended service will run until June 30, 2008, and then be reviewed for its effectiveness. Click HERE to access the current timetable.
