Meet the team- The Economic Development & Marketing Unit


The Economic Development and Marketing team are committed to sustaining the Fremantle economy and helping Fremantle businesses attain prosperous growth.

Economic Development is the process to improve the liveability and quality of life in the city through economic growth. The Economic Development & Marketing Manager is in charge of developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as the Chamber of Commerce, government departments and private businesses. A key strategy developed by the Marketing team is to adopt a coordinated approach to marketing the city which encompasses ongoing dialogue with the business community.

David Duncanson – Manager


[David Duncanson] David has been with the City of Fremantle since October 2000 and is the Manager of the Economic Development & Marketing Business Unit. He is also responsible for the Corporate Events team who organise civic events such as ANZAC Day and Citizenship Ceremonies. David has a practical down-to-earth approach to problem-solving and is committed to promoting Fremantle. David spent a number of years operating his own business in the oil industry in Scotland before becoming involved in the economic development of a declining coal mining area in South West Scotland. He then operated as a self-employed consultant prior to moving to Australia in 1995.


Wendy Filsell - Marketing Officer


[Wendy Filsell] Wendy has a BA in Textiles and a GDip in Business. Wendy is currently undertaking a Masters of Professional Marketing at ECU bringing a contemporary marketing focus to the team. The annual calendar, Fremantle Trials (www.fremantletrails.com.au), the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal and “Ho Ho Ho in Freo” are a few of the marketing projects Wendy has been involved in to date. Wendy has lived in and around Fremantle for over 30 years and has a passion for Fremantle and its strong sense of community. She has traveled widely throughout the UK, Europe and Africa and draws on diverse professional experiences in the arts, retail, hospitality and fashion manufacturing industries in Western Australia and London.

Leah Robinson - Project Officer

[Leah Robinson] As the Project Officer of the team, Leah supports the development, implementation and evaluation of the City of Fremantle and Fremantle First projects. Leah completed a Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Cultural Studies, majoring in Public Relations and Performance at Curtin University in 2003 and is currently working towards a Masters in Business Administration at Murdoch University. Her experience in communication, event management and promotions in the Real Estate and Finance sectors contributes to the wealth of knowledge in the team.


Danielle Clarke - Business Administration Trainee

[Danielle Clarke]

Danielle graduated from Mandurah Senior College in 2007 with the aspiration to further her studies and experiences in business. Having previously worked in the office at Woolworths, Danielle now supports the Economic Development and Marketing team while studying a Certificate IV in Business Administration. Despite the fact that Danielle lives in Mandurah, she loves the Fremantle community and is pleased she can contribute to its growth and future.

 Paul Cherednichenko - Strategic Marketing Consultant
 
[Paul Cherednichenko] With over 20 years of management and marketing experience, Paul supports the development and future of Fremantle First. Starting out as an Assistant to the Managing Director at ANZ, Paul has worked across a diverse range of businesses and industries, including Uncle Ben’s Australia, Kodak Australia, and Myer Grace Bros. Originally from Victoria, Paul worked at the City of Stonnington as the Executive Manager, Community Relations. Now Paul is bringing his experiences in customer service, arts & cultural development, corporate planning, marketing and business development to the city. Paul’s aspiration to promote and support the growth and expansion of Fremantle and its projects, contributes to the success of the Economic Development & Marketing team.
