C.Y. O'Connor Statues [Information Record]

AIM
C.Y.O'Connor Statue is in front of the Port Authority building, Cliff Street. This bronze sculpture by Pietro Porcelli unveiled in 1911, pays tribute to O'Connor's vision. The four panels commemorate his major works as Engineer in Chief on Western Australia from 1891.
The C.Y.O'Connor Statue is in the water off Cockburn. The statue by Tony Jones, stands 2 metres tall and shows O'Connor sitting astride an unsaddled mount. It is located 50 metres off the beach where the State's first horse race was held in 1833.
Directions to the statue: Park at the car park (Robbs Road) located next to the South Fremantle Power Station. Take the track to the beach, turn north and walk to the marker, which is a wire sculpture depicting horses on the edge of the dune. There is a remnant of old concrete steps just on the waterline. The statue is located 50 metres out to sea and best viewed when the tide is low.
