Council to collect Emergency Services Levy

Under new State Government legislation Local Government became a collection agency for another State Government levy. The Emergency Services Levy (ESL) commenced from the 1st July 2003 when it will be charged on all properties within the City Of Fremantle.

Owners of land will be required to pay the ESL, without exceptions, although a rebate will apply to pensioners and seniors. The ESL will be due and payable along with annual property rates and in line with normal payment options approved by the City.

The ESL replaces the previous funding arrangements for WA Emergency Services, which was previously funded through insurance premiums (75%), Local Government (12.5%) and State Government (12.5%).

To obtain further ESL information visit the FESA web site at www.fesa.wa.gov.au or contact them on (Email) esl@fesa.wa.gov.au or the City Of Fremantle customer service centre.
