Committee Meetings
Council > Meetings > committee meetings
A Standing Committee is a continuing Committee of Council that specialises in a particular aspect of Council's functions. There are two standing Committees:
- Planning Services Committee
- Strategic and General Services Committee
Elected Members from each of the six wards sit on each of the Committees. An Elected Member also chairs the Committee meetings. Refer here for COUNCIL COMMITTEE Representation & FULL CONTACT DETAILS for Elected Members.
Where are the Committee Meetings held?
Committee meetings assemble in the Committee Room on the first floor, Town Hall Centre. Access is via the curved white stairs opposite Myer, near the children's playground in King's Square
Where can I collect a Committee Agenda?
Committee Agendas are available as you enter the Committee Room and contain items to be discussed at the Committee meeting. The items are written by Council employees and compiled as part of the Agenda. They will be referred to throughout the meeting by item number. Attachments (letters, reports etc.) can be found at the back of the Committee Agenda.
Copies of Committee Agendas are also available for viewing at the Fremantle City Library and the Service & Information Counter on the ground floor, the Thursday evening prior to the meeting
Can I participate?
An opportunity for public questions will be provided at the commencement of the meeting. All members wishing to ask a question will be given an opportunity to do so.
- At the commencement of the meeting, the Committee Chairperson will ask for the names of people wishing to speak and the item of interest.
- If the Committee has no objections to you doing so, you will be invited to speak immediately prior to Committee consideration of the item in question.
- When invited to speak, speak through the Chair. The Chair will allow a maximum of five minutes. This time limit is set to prevent the meeting running overtime and allows fairness to other members of the public.
- You will not be able to debate the issue with members of the Committee and will only be able to speak further if a member of the Committee wishes to clarify a point with you which he/she must do through the Chair.
- If a number of people wish to speak on a particular issue, the Chair may ask any particular interest groups present to determine representatives to present particular points of view. Please note this does not limit the right of all individuals to ask a question during public question time at the beginning of the meeting.
- Members of the public will be asked to leave the room if a matter is to be discussed as a confidential item or, if due to disorder, the Chair adjourns the meeting.
- Once your item has been dealt with, you may remain for the rest of the meeting or leave at any stage.
- Minutes of the meeting are kept. They record a summary of questions and responses from public question time and the decisions and recommendations to Council made by the Committee. A record of the Committee's general discussions on each item is not kept.
